Devon Mitchell

Profile

Devon Mitchell is a former safety* for the Detroit Lions who played two years.  Devon was drafted in the 1986 draft* from Iowa, where he holds the team record with 18 interceptions.  Devon tacked on 8 more picks in the pros.

* Regarded as one of the best safeties in Iowa history along with Bob Sanders, Paul Krause and Emlen Tunnell

** Big Iowa draft with Chuck Long, Ronnie Harmon and Mike Haight going in the first round.

Personal Notes

So, you'll see that Devon played two years with the Lions, but they are non consecative.  He played in 1986 and 1988.  Meaning, that the year you pulled Devon Mitchell from a Topps pack, he would not be playing (1987, 1989).

1987 is a difficult one in researching Iowa players.  So often you'll click on an unfamiliar name on profootballreference, and find that the player played one season, 1987.  Replacement players do not have cards typically.  However Devon does, but has that 1987 gap in his resume.  Just like I suppose we will be seeing with 2020 COVID opt-outs.

Collection Notes

I have 1/7 (14%) cards in my collection.
