Jeff Duncan
Profile
Jeff Duncan was an outfielder who played for the New York Mets. Drafted out of high school by the Chicago Cubs, he decided to start first with Iowa State*. He then transferred to Arizona State before being drafted by the Mets in 2000**. He is now the head baseball coach at Kent State.
* ISU has had some MLBers, but nobody of major consequence. The best was probably Buster Brown (12.5 WAR), Bob Locker (10.2) and Mike Myers (8.1). Duncan finished with -0.9.
** Iowa notables from this draft: Joel Hanrahan (2nd Norwalk), Duncan (7th), Chris Tritle (19th Center Point-Urbana), Jose Rodriguez (24th Iowa Western CC), Ryan Trytten (39th Ottumwa), Alan Abram (40th West Des Moines), Sean Johnson (41st Clinton), Michael Laesch (43rd ISU), and Ben Riley (49th Iowa Western CC)
Personal Notes
Jeff Duncan is nearly a significant player. Iowa State discontinued their baseball program back in 2001, so with his timing I figured he'd be the last player in MLB from Iowa State, however Mike Myers lasted until 2007 (Duncan was 2004.) Ok, but probably the last player drafted from ISU? Well, that goes to Alan Bomer in 2001. However, Duncan is the last former ISU player to make his MLB debut (2002). So, yay?
