But wait!  

Late breaking news, a new Iowa Connection was discovered on Kansas City (Twitter comment find!).  Jack Cochrane was born in Mount Vernon, played for South Dakota and went undrafted before being added to the KC roster later in the year.  Got a tackle in the Super Bowl too!

So that puts KC up to 3 connections, still below Philly's 4.  

But wait!

Daurice Fountain (Northern Iowa) was active on the team for the first game.  That counts!  KC has 4 connections.

But wait!

Albert Young (Iowa) was an intern during the summer for Kansas City. That...counts?  Maybe? Well, I'll say no for now.   Still 4.

But wait!

Strength and conditioning coach Ryan Reynolds (Iowa)(...no, not Deadpool) has been with KC for 7 years!  I only discovered it today!  Which means that KC has 5 connections!

Which also means...

Kansas City should have been the choice over Jacksonville and Philly, moving my record to....

Remarkably, the two losses were both by Joe Burrow and the Bengals, which means I need to do a deeper dive on that team (obviously many missed Iowa Connections), or Joe Burrow is worth multiple Iowa Connections.  Hard to say yet.

TCdb vs. Beckett - First Impressions

 So I post a couple of weeks ago that I was starting to play around with TCdb.  I've been a loyal Beckett user for years now, and have become more down on it lately.  For collectors like me, it seems that TCdb has gathered a pretty decent sized following and positive reviews.  But how will it work for this collection?  Here's what I found. TCdb Pros Cost You can't complain about the cost (free!).   Its like some of the other big services I use for my collecting, mainly wikipedia and [sport name]-reference.com in that they provide so much information but I just don't know how they do it well.   The Checklists The database is very comparable to Beckett.  Beckett does have some cards that TCdb doesn't have, and visa-versa.  Notable for this blog, Beckett does not list the 2017 Panini Iowa set, and TCdb doesn't have all the Iowa Hawkeye Football team sets from the late 80's, early 90's.   Rankings! Waterloo: The NBA started here

I grew up in Cedar Falls, and we were the smaller, younger brother to Waterloo.  Waterloo was the biggest city in the area, and the leading employer with John Deere.  If you know much about John Deere tractors, you'll know there is one called the Waterloo Boy. Waterloo's fame extends beyond just tractors though.  Many famous athletes have come from the city, including Reggie Roby and Darren Sproles.  Also famous, but more infamously John Wayne Gacy came from Waterloo.  You might remember that Michelle Bachmann accidently referred to him instead of John Wayne during her presidential campaign in 2011...also Michelle is from Waterloo! The 5 Sullivan brothers are from Waterloo.  If you don't know, they are partially the inspiration behind the movie "Saving Private Ryan".  All five Sullivan brothers died on the same ship.
