Iowa Collection Update: Final Numbers

I hadn't taken full account of the number of cards in my collection until today.  As I write this, I have 12,341 unique Iowa Connection cards in my collection.  That is insane!  Of course, this number is more insane.  The number of Iowa Connection cards I need are....

Well, take a moment and think what your guess would be.  I'll put it at the end of the post.  I'll take a guess here myself.  Now, my best collection is Kurt Warner, where I have about 8% of his cards.  Towards the middle is Harvey Kuenn at 3.5%.  Some 90's players I have a significant chunk of including Kevin Tapani at 35.9%.  Many pre 1970's players and minor leaguers I have 0% of.  Hockey, Wrestling and other collections are wastelands right now.  So, I'll be a bit conservative and say that I own 2% of all the Iowa Connection cards.   That would make my guess 605,000 wants.  We'll see if I'm closer or if your guess is closer at the end.

Here are the updates for each sub collection.  Football remains king, but with the new Baseball additions this year, the gap has closed.  Keegan Murray, Kris Murray (next year), Tyrese Haliburton, and hopefully Caitlin Clark will help close the gap for Basketball over then next few years.

The Top 10 collections has shuffled with the addition of Chuck Knoblauch and Ozzie Smith.  I'm impressed that Chuck is #2 considering before I added him to the Iowa Collection I was only collecting his Twins cards.  Many...ugh... Yankees cards to collect.  (Listen, if you root for the Yankees like my in-laws do, good for you, but as a Twins fan who's suffered many a loss to them it hurts a bit)

Very football heavy, but hopefully I get more baseball added to TCDB this year for trading.

For every top, there is a bottom.  These are my worst collections, i.e. the person with the most cards available that I have 0 of.  I might actually have to buy some MMA wax!

Well, I was way off on my guess.  In total, there are 233,958 Iowa Connection cards which means that I only need 221,617 more!  What a deal! I can probably have that done by June!  I mean, I already have 5.2% of them after 30+ years of collecting.

I wish there was an easy way to remove every card that was serial numbered 100 and under just so I could get a more reasonable number.  Keegan Murray is currently at 525 cards.  If you remove his 100 and below counts, you have 190 cards left. 64% of his checklist are cards numbered 100 or less!  30 of the 190 are auto'd and 8 are memorabilia. Included in the 152 cards left are his Kaboom which is unnumbered but we all know is low count.

Anyway, that's a fight for another day.  In summary, good year for the collection, much work to be done, and I'm loving every minute of it.
